SPOKEN ENGLISH COACHING IN INDIA

There are hundreds of thousands of Coaching Centres in India which profess to impart Spoken English. They offer crash courses which may serve as refresher to those who wish to get some employment in a Call Centre. Some Centres say that they train the eager youth in gaining communication skills. Most of these are for very limited periods not exceeding 45 days.

The basic problems of African and Asian students speaking and writing English are

1. lack of fluency
2. inadequate vocabulary
3. thinking in mother tongue and trying to translate it into English
4. grammatical errors
5. idiomatic errors
6. desire to impress others with their language

All these problems cannot be corrected in 45 days or less. What could not and what has not been learnt in 16 or 20 years of school and college education upto post-graduate or professional degree, cannot now be gathered or cultivated in a month and a half.

We cannot say that it is too late. Then, there must be a way out.

That is absolutely true. No matter how qualified people of India are, only a minute fraction are well-versed in English. Primarily because they think that their knowledge is adequate, secondarily they did not have proper guidance & coaching in their early years. Not everybody has been educated in good quality schools where English is strictly the spoken language. However, the scenario seems to be changing now and today's youth seemed to have grasped the essence of the language better.

I agree with you in toto. At present, I am fully enamoured/absorbed in writing vivekanandayb.blogspot.com and Ramakrishnayb.blogspot.com, where I have completed 85 reviews out of planned 100. I shall revert to English literature with full vigor. Kindly bear with me. Thank you.
